John Coburn and I recently attended a Mental Health Summitt in Broward County. The program started at 8 am and we learned so much valuable information. There were so many panelists on how mental health affects so many different demographics. I wanted to share with you some of the highlights with the hopes that you reading this might help others.

Molly Paris was one of the panelists. She is a very successful practicing attorney. She shared her story of alcoholism and her stress levels due to her profession and how she was able to overcome her addiction. Also discussing how mental health becomes a factor in the legal arena was Dr. Scott Weinstein. He provides psychological oversight and statewide mental health coordination and clinical services to clients in Florida. Dr. Weinstein mentioned the book "The Tao of Pooh". I cannot wait to order it. It sounds like this book has some great insight.

What esecially spoke to me was the keynote speaker. Michi Marshall. Michi really broke it down, she was so honest in sharing her experiences of her FAMOUS husband, Miami Dolphin football player Brandon Marshall and his struggles with mental health and how it affected her. She passionately shared her story. She was so powerful in giving mental health a VOICE. Together they founded Project375.org and they have made it their mission to change the way people think about mental health by unlocking the human potential through conversation, education and inspiration. Trust me, Michi is truly an inspiration. Their organization provides mental health first aid course trainings and so much more.

Additionally there were panelists from the VA and if you know of any homeless Vets please get them involved in the HUD VASH Programs. You can contact Helen Stolin 954-475-5500 Ext 5437 to learn more. We also learned that they VA is starting to provide coverage for non traditional therapies such as mindfulness, yoga, meditation and more, so make sure to ask your VA about these programs.

Once a year we open up our home and celebrate life! We invite other like minded organizations to come over and let the community know about services that are available for those with mental health issues, veterans and those that have suffered loss from suicide. We focus on joy and happiness and share that with all that come. The event is totally FREE and we always have lots of entertainment to keep everyone occupied. This year are special guests were Elvis and Marilyn Monroe and as you can see everyone loved them. Hope to see you at 2019's event. ...
